Deep Winter

Once again I take heed of the scars of another broken heart
Away from the smiling faces of another sunny day
Wrapped in a solitude of silence where only dust remains
Waiting for a turbulent sea of anger and injured ego
For the opportunity to flow and be rejected once more

I saw it coming but sought it out regardless
Opening and giving freely to one I thought would cherish it
This bitter, angry heart stomped flat by decades of decay
Bent and broken, time and time again
My addiction to the pain of unrequited love is astonishing
Giving more of myself than I have the capacity to share
And reeling in debt when the collector comes to call
I once again find myself here

The silent sadness of laying in bed before the sun has set
Curtains drawn and darkness spilling out of every surface
While winter squall just outside my window blows
My deep winter solitude of cuffing seasons come and gone
and the frigid familiarity of a heart that no one wants
I am snowblind to the pain of repetition
Oblivious to the desertion of another forgotten love
But refusing to accept the truth - holding out hope
That perhaps this time my blood will not run cold
Will not sting with the unrequited chill of darkest winter
As it returns to my heart and takes shelter in the darkness
But these delusional dreams continue to strike
And destroy my most vulnerable state and decay the walls
That up until now have done their best to keep me safe

So once again I take heed of the scars of another broken heart
Away from the smiling faces of another sunny day
Wrapped in a solitude of silence where only dust remains
Waiting in a turbulent sea of anger and injured ego
For the opportunity to flow and be rejected once more
My addiction to the pain of unrequited love is astonishing
Giving more of myself than I have the capacity to share
And reeling in debt when the collector comes to call

So once again I take heed of the scars of another broken heart
Away from the smiling faces of another sunny day
Wrapped in a solitude of silence where only dust remains
Waiting in a turbulent sea of anger and injured ego
For the opportunity to flow and be rejected once more
