My dad didn't have his dad
Like I had and have
Still wish he had his dad
So that we could see what the other had

Fly away

Dear dad I miss

Beyond mortal bliss

The chance to show you who I am

See my bird? Silhouetting blue skies?
Since our last word I've lived a whole life
Dear dad you missed
Days reminisced
My wedding kiss
And 3 kids
But most of all how I learned to fly

Full stop, I would swap
To give my dad the dad he never had

I see your bird, caged now in time
Many years blurred, and mountains climbed
Dear dad please know
I've been high and low
Made it through though
I needed you so
And just wished I could have had you by my side

Won't stand at your grave, you won't see me cry
Because you are not there and you did not die
You're autumn wind
My daughter and twins
My losses and and wins
My good deeds and sins
But most of all you're everywhere and deep down inside

Yes it is sad that in life some birds never get to fly

I remember your bird, and I'm letting it out
From the cage of time to distant white clouds
I'll follow you there
When I've finished my share
We'll glide the same air
And take that last stair
