Skate Oddity

I see houses cropping up like weeds
And men dragging away the trees
It's so hot now in the summer
Wish us whatever weak luck you can muster

I'm living among construction
On a foundation of destruction
But my ride glides over the rocks
And no one really likes to stop

I wonder, what does life mean and what will it all be worth
There have to be at least a million different worlds on this earth
Don't you wonder, why does life seem like a never-ending search
And why are we always so far away when we finally find the words
At fourteen I was closer to who I wanted to be at seven
At twenty-two I'm closer to who I wanted to be at eleven
Now it's time to ride free on another undercurrent
And now I need to be somebody similarly different

I see children growing up like weeds
Glowing with their hopes and dreams
We hurry our lives until the inversion
We learn it takes nerve to be a person

I'm being circled by some bird of prey
His shadow grabs me as I skate
I won't let shade fade the wisdom of rhythm
Because I can't live with cynicism

I wonder, what does life mean and what will it all be worth
There have to be at least a million different worlds on this earth
Don't you wonder, why does life seem like a never-ending search
And why are we always so far away when we finally find the words
At fourteen I was closer to who I wanted to be at seven
At twenty-two I'm closer to who I wanted to be at eleven
Now it's time to ride free on another undercurrent
And now I need to be somebody similarly different
