Enceladus

I was born a long time ago, in a happy and protected fortress
A stronghold against the tyranny of darkness
And an incubator for all that's good in life
I came into this world smiling and laughing
Knowing that a time would come, when all would live in harmony
For there was no other way, and that is all I had ever known

A small crack formed in the outer wall, and then another
I took an obscure path to discover that there is no guarantee in life
We are not destined for greatness
Yet there is a possibility for men and women to achieve great things
The universe is not indifferent, but it doesn't cast a vote
It waits in reservation, reflecting our hopes back upon us
Like a stone skipping on a lake, infinitely, forevermore
I promised to be true, in anticipation of the harvest at summer's end

All things move in cycles, the seasons of the Earth
I am now at the midway point, and I have climbed the highest mountain
The one I saw on the distant horizon, so many years ago
From such great heights, I can see the wild terrain
In all splendid detail and independent motion
Churning and convulsing, making way for the future
Of wonderful and grandiose idealistic forms, supportive of the way
And single-minded, on its course of impatient restlessness

From such great heights it becomes apparent
That the rhythms of nature are there to apprehend
And the one true path of knowing is a journey without end
To see the gear rotations and the cleansing of the brook
And to smell the sweet fragrance of a poppy, or a rose
All things are knowable, hidden as they are
To protect the cosmic secret from discovery too soon

Cry, cry for the moon, but do not ever think that your sorrows are your own
For every tear that's shed, a million more are formed in perfect facsimile
With greatest care, unique and unassuming
The human condition survives through empathy
And compassion is the way of the wise and the fair

Networks of gratitude feed the spirit of those who are patched in
Like the roots of the rainforest, a single organism
Dependent on the acts of you and me
We are free to choose, and every way we lose, but to be reborn under the sun
Is a promise that we all can share, it isn't fair to be left out in the dark
But it's necessary and vital to the future of our kind
