Headwind

A gentle breeze blowing in my face
As I calmly go about the day
Barely hearing my own footsteps
When I'm hit by the train

I asked you to leave; now you're back inside my head
I'm not going to let you drag me down again
You looked so sincere with those hollow words you said
And the flames will never burn all the evidence

I wait for a moment to collect myself
And put all the pieces back in place
Nothing appears to be broken
Except for my ability to concentrate

After a while the headwind fades
I'm up and moving at a normal pace
Shifting my focus to better things
Until I'm hit by the next train

I asked you to leave; now you're back inside my head
I'm not going to let you drag me down again
You looked so sincere with those hollow words you said
And the flames will never burn all the evidence

One day the wind will be at my back
No more obstacles in my path
I'll never really know why you left
No sense standing on the tracks
