I went down to Austin
Didn't know what to expect
And a little girl ran in front of the taxi I was in
And the guy at the wheel just shook his head

He said
"Chick, you gotta know where you're going
You gotta know what you really want
Why have you come to Austin, Texas if you're
Looking for a temporary love?"

And I said
"I don't know, I just booked a flight
I'm looking for a soul to steal
The devil went down to Georgia
And so I'm coming here"

Austin treated me well
But it did not treat me right
And I found myself escaping
Into the hazy stage lights
And the little girl with the broken neck
Rang me yesterday
And said
"Why'd you go to Austin, Texas in that taxi anyway?"

And He said

Why have you come to Austin, Texas if you're
Looking for a temporary love?"

And I said
"I don't know, I just booked a flight

And so I'm coming here"

And I flew home from Texas
Back down to Batten Street Drive
Oh, I like the way the sun hits me
Directly in the eyes

As if it were a challenge to say
"I bet you can't
Fly back down to Austin and catch that taxi cab"

And He said

And I said
