New Sharon

In a tabernacle tent at the edge of the town
Where the sinners repent and the light shines down
The lost will be saved, believers baptized
The sick will be healed and prophecies realized

They came from Oscaloosa and up from Grinnell
To hear the sermons and the stories from the reverend himself
The singing and the saving would go on for hours
Till the town folks tired of those holy rolling shouters

The power's still falling in New Sharon
Reverend Charles Plotts is on the microphone
Calling God's children to come back home
The power's still falling in New Sharon

Then some local lawyer got the chief of police
To issue citations for disturbing the peace
Reverend Plotts and the brothers got tossed into jail
But they wouldn't let no one go their bail

They held jailhouse revivals, made a ruckus and noise
The chief told the bailiff, "Release those boys!"
Now the tabernacle tent at the edge of the town
Is rocking again when the sun goes down

The power's still falling in New Sharon
Reverend Charles Plotts is on the microphone
Calling God's children to come back home
The power's still falling in New Sharon

Don't believe the devil's lies
Come and see with your own eyes
The Holy Ghost will appear
To those believers gathered here

The power's still falling in New Sharon
Reverend Charles Plotts is on the microphone
Calling God's children to come back home
The power's still falling in New Sharon
