Gonna Be Alright

I start my day
With a cup of black coffee
Tryin' to sort out
All the pieces of my life
I tell myself I've got
To keep a growth mindset
I haven't cracked yet
But I feel like I might

I've got dues to pay
And no flesh left to pay them with
Dates to make
But they keep passing me by
Somehow we figure if
We do what they tell us
Then we're all gonna be alright

I stay up late reading
About a special girl who
Tried to sort out
All the pieces of her life
She never thought that
She could truly change the world, but
For a moment
It sure looked like she might
For a moment
It sure looked like she might

I end my day
Staring at the ceiling
Wondering
What's the point of it all?
I try to be
The change I want to see, but
In the end I must accept
That I'm not

We can worship change
We can shape it in our favor
On an even plane
We might have a hope to thrive, but
The odds are against us
And I feel so hopeless
Like we're not gonna be alright

I've got dues to pay
And no flesh left to pay them with
Dates to make
But they keep passing me by
Somehow we know that if
We do what they tell us
Then we're not gonna be alright
No, we're not gonna be alright
