The Book of Genesis

You won't read this in the book of Genesis

You won't read this in the book of Genesis
But I ate the fruit of the forbidden tree with a kiss
That Eve gave to me. We broke the decree
And the breaking was bliss

God said "Defy, and you shall surely die."
He gave me law, but he also gave Eve, and she said "Try"
So, who to believe? I believed Eve
And made God's word a lie

The things that He said filled me once with dread
But a little voice told me 'twas better to trust her instead
And now I can see. We ate from the tree
Yet we are not dead
Despite what you said
We ate from the tree, yet we are not dead

I kissed the drips and droplets from her lips
We crushed out all of the juice and took turns taking sips
I finished, too, the sweet residue
From her sweet fingertips

Lord, it was nice back in paradise
But if you would let me repeat it, I would not think twice
For I tell you this: that moment of bliss
Made it well worth the price
