One Page At a Time
There's a boy I know
And with every year that he grows
Is a moment you're missing
A memory he's wishing
You were a part of
There's a man I know
Who's been through the throws of a storm
Of his own, but I can't keep hold of a ship
That is drowning, surrounding who I love most of all
I can't keep surviving
I wanna live
And we moved on
I told Adam not to contact us, until he got his life together
We didn't hear from him for several months
And when I finally did, he looked good
Well, better
He told me he was leaving New York
He was gonna start over again - in St Thomas
And just like that, it's Beckett and me alone in the city
It takes me a minute, ya know, to believe it's real
Because I don't know how to be normal
There's a girl I know
Who's been hanging onto her hope
At the end of her rope
Just trying to cope
On a slippery slope
She's been climbing all alone
There's a woman I know
And her light's beginning to show
From a flicker a glow
To a fire in her bones
There's a life that is waiting
A city to call home
I can't keep surviving
Cause my story's being written
One page at a time
And I may not know the ending
But I'll cherish every line
Every mountain every valley
That made this story mine
Each page I turn
A lesson learned
In forgetting what's behind
I've been operating for years in crisis mode
I mean, who am I now in New York
And then it hits me
Beckett and I need to take back the city as ours and make some new memories
And so that's what we do
One walk at a time
There's a place I know
For a brand new dream to unfold
There's a change in the season
That gives me a reason
For faith in the unknowns
There are seeds to sow
There are new adventures and places to go
There's a freedom
Something to believe in
Together we will make it on our own
It's time for thriving
Come on Bubbles
Cause my story's being written
One page at a time
And I may not know the ending
But I'll cherish every line
Every mountain every valley
That made this story mine
Each page I turn
A lesson learned
In leaving what's behind
And as the days went on
I found new strength
One that was rooted in truth and not secrecy
I actually began opening up
And from then on almost every single time I let someone in they had a relatable experience
Their sister is bipolar, they struggle with depression
Their parent refuses treatment, they've been to rehab
The list goes on and on
If we could open up
If we could learn to love
The parts inside of us
We're hiding in the dark
If we could honor all
The rises and the falls
The world behind the walls
That makes us who we are
If we could open up
If we could learn to love
The parts inside of us
We're hiding in the dark
If we could honor all
The rises and the falls
The world behind the walls
That makes us who we are
There's a world we know
That is aching for us to own
Every part of our story
The grit and the glory
The cracks in the armor
That makes us human
There's a voice I know
And its calling me down a road
Of compassion and grace
For every face
That is running their race
On this planet we call home
It says keep shining
Oh, let me tell you one last thing
Ya know, when I started writing
I asked Beckett if he was okay with me being so honest and open about everything we've been
through
He's a teen now by the way and that's a brand new adventure in itself
Anyway, he goes, Yeah, Mom, I'm fine with it
Tell our story, as long as you don't make yourself out to be the victim
Okay, so time has marched on, and that time has brought me perspective
And that perspective has helped me to consider something I never thought I could do
Forgive
My story's being written
One page at a time
And I may not know the ending
But I'll cherish every line
Every mountain every valley
That made this story mine
Each page I turn
A lesson learned
In forgiving what's behind
Hello
Hey Mom, Are you coming home soon
Yeah, I'm on my way
I gotta go
And with every year that he grows
