Moving Along

Part of my job is to wake up way before the sun rise
To hear the stories of what happens when destiny plays with our lives
Take another step in these puddles towards the next check to survive
Maybe spare a second in the mirror just to keep up our disguise
Just a regular guy holding onto capacity to listen
Business as usual, catastrophes stacked into prisms
You can shine a light on any face but recognize what's beneath the system
I'm guilty of turning blind eyes, letting it slide while I'm sipping
On the house lager, budget too strapped to buy the next round
Close my eyes, take a swig, split second forget my surroundings
Too proud to admit my faults, pointing my fingers around
Sing karaoke blues to the handful left in the crowd
Line up the cue, follow through with the shot, sink the 8 smooth
Other times bounce off the wall, move like there's nothing to lose
Been rolling with the punches so long, slip the combo one-two
I can barely tell the difference between my birthmarks and a bruise

We're just moving along, we stay moving along
Already skipped to next song, we stay moving along
Let bygones be cast-off, we stay moving along
What's lost stays lost, so we just move it along
We're just moving along, we stay moving along
Already hopped to the next bar, we stay moving along
Though we forgot what we are, we stay moving along
With each cause comes a cost, so we just move it along

Part of my job is to recognize those whom others find irrelevant
Compose portraits of smiles despite hell, with no embellishments
Focus the lens, press the shutter on the image of perseverance
Patient like 35-mili film, wait for the next development
Can't decide if it's time better spent on chasing a buzz
Set my aperture wide, capture vibes mistaken for love
Jotting down all this advice for the next generation to come
How long until they discover we was just making it up?
We're going on and on drinking all of these Molotovs
Watching the world explode, we're expected to swallow it up
Spend my day floating through the city to explore the ambiance
But gas money's tough so its either walk or take the bus
Slow it down to catch a moment, we probably lost before
I'm always staying after the show to wait for the encore
Cutting off all our connections, headphones to aux cords
Head nod to the bartenders, heavy-handed on the pours

We're just moving along, we stay moving along
Already skipped to next song, we stay moving along
Let bygones be cast-off, we stay moving along
What's lost stays lost, so we just move it along
We're just moving along, we stay moving along
Already hopped to the next bar, we stay moving along
Though we forgot what we are, we stay moving along
With each cause comes a cost, so we just move it along
