Dogma

If you're gonna get your morals from the holy books
Be careful what you choose
It's ironic that so many
Use the so-called word of god as their excuse
To oppress, enslave and torture
Torment and abuse
Anyone with the audacity to say that
Maybe they don't really share their views

The good books say thou shalt not kill
Unless that sinner's gay
Or they're working on the sabbath
Refuse to wear a headscarf
Or they take his name in vain
They say if your daughter's not a virgin
You should stone her on your doorstep on her wedding day
Or you can sell her into slavery
The good book says that that's ok

We need questions we can't answer
Not answers that we're not allowed to question
We need a compass, not an arrow
That only points in one direction

Contraception is the devil's work
And condoms are a sin
AIDS is just the Good Lord's way
To show you all the things
You shouldn't stick your weenie in
A punishment for infidels
Disciples of the beast
Well how come there's no bolt of lightning
Striking down the the kiddie-fiddling priests

So take the blinkers off my friends
And take your head out of the scriptures
If you never stop and look around
You'll never see the bigger picture
It's no coincidence the enemies of reason
Are the architects of faith
When they've got you on your knees
They'll convince you to believe
Anything they want to say

We need questions we can't answer
Not answers that we're not allowed to question
We need a compass, not an arrow
That only points in one direction

I don't need a guide
To tell me what's wrong or right
I'll defend my right not to believe
Cos we all have a right
Not to believe what we like
So please keep your dogma on a lead

We need questions we can't answer
Not answers that we're not allowed to question
We need a compass, not an arrow
That only points in one direction
We need a compass, not an arrow
That only points in one direction
