Choices

A girl finds a dollar in the street one day
She's running for the candy shop up the way
But racing by she stops as she sees
A homeless woman asking her please
She's dirty and she's on her knees
The girl tells her "I can have those sweets another day"

A man is sitting by his window sill
He's thinking of his friend of 40 years and still
They quarreled and have not since then
Traded words to try and mend
A friendship that should last until the end
And so he picks up the phone to call and start again

Choices, choices, every day
Light and darkness as we make our way
Choices, choices, gain what we give
A million choices add up to a life well lived

It's graduation day, she's wearing her cap and gown
The class chose her to give the speech and she's learned it up and down
But when she gets up on the stage
She sees that what she wants to say
Is not what she had planned all the way
She tears up her notes and speaks straight from the heart today

Choices, choices, every day
Light and darkness as we make our way
Choices, choices, gain what we give
A million choices add up to a life well lived

Fear is never on our side
Life will make us want to run and hide
But hope comes rolling in as constant as the tide

He blows out the candles, it's his birthday 80 years
There's a party with a real live band, all his family and friends are here
And looking back, remembering everything
What he always wanted most of all was to get up on stage and sing
So he walks right up and counts them off, no more waiting in the wings

Choices, choices, every day
Light over darkness as we make our way
Choices, choices, gain what we give
A million choices add up to a life well lived
