Falling Stars

If the stars come down to meet us
In the suffering and the mud
Will we dare to raise our heads up?
To receive all that is love

Are we used to taking cover
Or too used to hiding out?
For fear our gifts be used against us
If we shine too bright for love

If the stars come down to see us
Would we close our hands in fists?
Would we open up our fingers
To feel celestial love?

Would we close our minds to lightning?
Would we shut our eyes to stardust?
Can we know safety as humans?
Or feel the force of cosmic love?

If the stars come down to greet us
And the children run to see
Those diamonds on our battlefield
Would they return love easily?

Would we drop our earthly armour?
Feel a worth beyond our debt?
Open fully to life's journey?
A sour-sweet symphony of love

If the stars come down to greet us
Would we forget the pain we've known?
Would we raise our gaze to heaven?
Remember that we are love?

Would we see that we are spirit?
A spark of the great Creator?
Would we at last choose compassion?
If there were enough love to share
