Stories That I Tell Myself

I don't usually go out to get a coffee
Which is odd because I like to treat myself
Maybe I just want a stranger to talk to
Give a smile to someone else

Overthinking's got me thinking 'bout intentions
Don't know why it's gotten twisted in my mind
Kinda feeling like I need an intervention
Cause sometimes

The story that I tell myself
Is that I don't deserve the validation
Cause growing up I learned
That you should never search
For praise and reputation

Here I go again
Living in my head
With the stories that I tell myself
The stories that I tell myself
Now I'm wondering
How much time I've spent
On the stories that I tell myself
The stories that I tell myself

Take a seat and then I start a conversation
In my head I've got the perfect thing to say
I wish I didn't but I need the confirmation
I'm still enough in every single way

Part of me is holding on
To someone that I know I'll never be
A picture perfect version of the person
That I think they want to see

Here I go again
Living in my head
With the stories that I tell myself
The stories that I tell myself
Now I'm wondering
How much time I've spent
On the stories that I tell myself
The stories that I tell myself

The stories that I tell myself

I think it's time to write another chapter now
Something unexpected I can figure out
Care a little less about the this is how
It's all supposed to be

Here I go again
Living in my head
With the stories that I tell myself
The stories that I tell myself
Now I'm wondering
How much time I've spent
On the stories that I tell myself
The stories that I tell myself
