Wait Out the Storm

It comes in waves
It's all smiles or you can't look at me for days
Something's in the air, but I won't be the one to say
But everybody knows I'll be the one who chose to stay

I hold the weight
Convincing myself in time maybe it will fade away
Vanish into thin air and I'll go along my way
Now I carry a rope that holds the past but I'll say

Maybe things will change with time
So I guess I'll wait out the storm
It's no longer safe inside
Yet I still choose to wait out the storm
Nothing's healed by silence
But I stick to compliance
And I'll try to wait out the storm

You twist the words
Bending them around
Until you make me a monster
I pour my words onto you
Though I'm scared to say I'm hurt
Scream at the top of my lungs
And then ask you what you heard
(You hear nothing)

I'll start a war
If I try to move but I'm held down by your anchor
Hoping that confusion doesn't morph into anger
Bleeding on the floor but you look at me like a stranger

But maybe things will change with time
So I guess I'll wait out the storm
It's no longer safe inside
Yet I still choose to wait out the storm
Nothing's healed by silence
But I stick to compliance
And I'll try to wait out the storm

I must be struck by thunder
Before I can feel the warmth of the sun
Drowning in your rain with no place to run

Gazing out the window at the storm
With dark clouds, heavy rain, and changing tides
Only to turn around and find that very storm exists inside

Maybe things will change with time
Maybe things will change with time
Maybe things will change with time
Maybe things will change with time

Thought maybe it would change with time
But now it's no longer safe inside
