Last

I drag this poem 'cross your weary thighs
For the minstrel lays his head where he can cry
And his gasps for air become your sultry sighs
Time lingers for a moment before it dies
Time lingers for a moment before it dies

This window has a crack that looks like rain
The storm held back by this ancient pane
And the thunder breaks a silence once contained
By the mercy that you offered me again
By the mercy that you offered me again

So we hold onto the throes of a clumsy dance
Bluffing time with a broken gambler's chance
Letting go of futures free and the shackled past
We never know which kiss will be our last
No we never know which kiss will be our last

As your voice cracked the sky in perfect song
I wept and merely tried to hum along
In a world that yearned to riddle me with shame
Your ember came and saved this tired flame
Your ember came and saved this tired flame

We cling to every cloud we see above
Just a wisp of flimsy vapor feels like love
And the trees that try to teach us with the wind
They sigh at our beginning and our end
They sigh at our beginning and our end

So we hold onto the throes of a clumsy dance
Mocking time for a brief and cruel chance
As the future forms the circle to our past
We never know which kiss will be our last
No we never know which kiss will be our last
