Letter From Limbo

Dear Mamma, looking through this fence
There's no real change that I can sense
The lack of understanding
Drives me to distraction
Hoping something good comes soon
But there's no sign of action

Oh Mamma, I was really sure
That very soon I'd be secure
These dreams now seem so very far
I've seen my plans unravel
But, like a moth inside a jar
I'm kept from forward travel

It took me so long to get to here
My freedom seems oh so near
Oh Mamma, I don't understand
Why no-one opens the gate
Abandoned in the borderland
They've left me here to stagnate

I'm anxious and don't feel so great
With no-one here to advocate
Why must I wait and wait and wait
They leave me with no clue
Of what they're hoping to achieve
And if they'll let me through

Oh Mamma, when did all this start?
They've closed their eyes or closed their hearts
I hope that you can follow
When the future's getting better
I pray that you're surviving well
And hope you get this letter
