The Captain & the Countess

The Captain spied the Countess one fateful autumn eve
Caught her eye as she was passing by
His intentions were doubtless but no innocent was she
Her smile like rain on ground that's parched and dry

Said the Captain to the Countess
Talk with me awhile. Why would you hide yourself away
Said the Countess to the Captain
I'm far more than a child. Give me one good reason I should stay

So he reached into the darkness put a finger to her lips
His whisper in her ear made her eyes harden
Meet me by the old dead tree where there's no one to hear
Meet me in the quiet of the secret garden

So the Countess and the Captain began their life of crime
Plundering ships he'd once sworn to defend
In icy seas and summer breeze until their bell would chime
Fair winds would fill their sails til the bitter end

So he reached into the darkness put a finger to her lips
His whisper in her ear made her eyes harden
Meet me by the old dead tree where there's no one to hear
Meet me in the quiet of the secret garden

Said the Captain to the Countess
I'm jealous and depraved. Consumed by beasts with eyes of wicked green
I'll sharpen knives and send lives to a watery grave
If they dare look at my pirate queen

The Captain and the Countess on the stormy seas of love
He the lookout she the navigator
But their compass misguiding and that dagger strung above
Meant they couldn't save themselves for later

So he reached into the darkness put a finger to her lips
His whisper in her ear made her eyes harden
Meet me by the old dead tree where there's no one to hear
Meet me in the quiet of the secret garden
