Etched Bones
Not far away, 'cross the riverbend
Lived a Dragon as fair as it's bold
They spent their days among clouds on their wings
And life from the ground they did mold
One day a Fox quietly came from a hedge
And he smiled at the creature so tall
He sang lullabies and he told them of mirth
And he promised them love above all
The Dragon so smitten by kindness and charm
Led the Fox down to their cave
And they lay the whole night by starlight engulfed
Revealing the adventures they craved
And I saw them there
And I couldn't help but stare
At the scales draped over bone
Surrounded by forest and stone
At the peak of night, beneath the full moon
The Fox, it snarled like a devil
He bore his black teeth and he tore off their wings
And 'til morning in his vict'ry revelled
When the sun rose and the Dragon awoke
They felt their back light and pained
Oh, they let out an incomprehensible wail
That soon transformed into flame
And I saw them there
And I couldn't help but stare
At the scales draped over bone
Surrounded by forest and stone
The Fox began running with wings in its grasp
Weaving the greenery's maze
No sooner had he made it down the soft hill
That the Dragon caught him in a blaze
The Fox there turned into ash and to dust
Having paid for the tricks and the lies
But the fire had taken a mind of its own
Scorched all earth as the Dragon cried
And I saw them there
And I couldn't help but stare
At the scars etched into bone
Surrounded by ruins and stone
The forest had burned for fifty-some years
And I hear the Dragon weeps still
A prophecy comes to me, night after night
Of life once again on that hill
That from not far away, 'cross the riverbend
Comes a girl as fair as she's bold
She'll give her own wings for the Dragon to fly
And life from the ashes they'll mold
And I saw them there
And I couldn't help but stare
At the scales draped over bone
Surrounded by forest and stone
Oh, surrounded by forest and stone
Lived a Dragon as fair as it's bold
They spent their days among clouds on their wings
And life from the ground they did mold
One day a Fox quietly came from a hedge
