Great to Be Anywhere

The telephone is ringing, birds are softly singing
And I don't think I'll sleep tonight
I think I'll make myself some grub, and try to eat a bite
When rumors start to flying, I guess there's no denying
The word just seems to get around
It's like the gates flew open and the circus just rolled into town

I hear the trumpet blowing, Beer is surely flowing
A brass band comes around the bend
The street has got a heartbeat, and everybody is your friend
You're sitting on the curb and lighting up your herb
I think I got a contact high
And over by the park, They're starting up a big fish fry
The boulevard is filling up, As I'm filling up another cup
The band is good and ready, the stage looks like it's all set up
All of our frustration, and long anticipation
Vanishes into the air
It's been so very long, It's great to just be anywhere

The party's winding down, There's smiling all around
It's really been quite a scene
Let's walk down by the river, At night it just looks so serene
The moon over the shoreline, glistens like a gold mine
The water's got a soothing hum
I think I really love you, but maybe it could be the rum
We can stop in the all night café, Get some coffee and a sweet beignet
We'll sit until the sun comes up, And melts the moon away
And tomorrow when it's over, might move a little slower
A little beat but we don't care
