Home Again

quiet on the mountaintop as morning turns to day
nobody knows now long I've been away

no angel voices singing, no trumpets here to play
just a hazy sky with nothing new to say

so I'll climb all the hillsides that I can
hold the river in the palm of my hand
breathe the steam from every smokestack in the Meadowlands
'til God and all his children know I'm home again

shadows from the headlights down the road I used to ride
through the valley low to the waterside
no magic starlight shining, no moon to guide the way
I always knew I wouldn't stay

so I'll climb all the hillsides that I can
hold the river in the palm of my hand
breathe the steam from every smokestack in the Meadowlands
'til God and all his children know I'm home again
