GOOD KID

He was just a kid, straight A's, full of dreams,
But the streets got cold, and the darkness gleamed,
Saw the gangsters roll, flashing gold and green,
Wanted to belong, be a part of the scene.

Picked up a gun, thought it made him a man,
Tried to prove himself, followed their plan,
But when the shots rang out, and the blood hit the ground,
He knew right then, there was no turning around.

Now he's running, heart pounding, fear in his eyes,
Lost in the shadows, under the night skies,
Was a good kid, but the streets pulled him in,
Now he's paying the price for that deadly sin.

Momma's at home, praying by the bed,
Doesn't know her boy's got blood on his hands,
The news hit hard, another life gone,
But in the dark alleys, the kid's on the run.

Gangsters watch, but they don't protect,
He's just another pawn they can't respect,
Lost his innocence, lost his way,
Now the law's closing in, and there's hell to pay.

Now he's running, heart pounding, fear in his eyes,
Lost in the shadows, under the night skies,
Was a good kid, but the streets pulled him in,
Now he's paying the price for that deadly sin.

No more dreams, no more bright future,
Just the sound of sirens, the thrill turned torture,
Wishing he could go back, just one more chance,
But the blood on his hands won't let him dance.

The gang's moved on, left him to the wind,
They don't care, they've got others to spin,
He's all alone, nowhere to hide,
Facing the consequences, no place to confide.

Now he's running, heart pounding, fear in his eyes,
Lost in the shadows, under the night skies,
Was a good kid, but the streets pulled him in,
Now he's paying the price for that deadly sin.

They caught him down by the old playground,
Where he used to laugh, where he'd run around,
But now it's cuffs and a judge's gavel,
For the boy who got lost in the streets' cold battle.

Was a good kid, just trying to be tough,
But in the ghetto, that ain't enough,
Now he's just a memory, another tragic tale,
Of a boy who fell into the streets' and left in a cold jail.
