Teenage Years

When he was only thirteen
He was taken into a camp
Where survival was the goal
He ate whatever
Was available to him
Wherever he could find food
He grabbed it
His brothers were not as strong
They perished from hunger
He finally escaped from there
And pursued his destiny
When he was only sixteen
He decided to take his chance
And travelled to the promised land

How could he
Manage to live
Such a full life
After what he had to go
Through all those nasty events
That forged a strong character
He could have been overwhelmed
But instead got out of that
And emerged as a proud grown-up

When she was only nine
She fled to a foreign land
And had to manage on her own
She went to different places
And had to learn the hated language
To live her child's life
Back to home eventually
She studied again and again
Just to lose her father
As she reached her twenties

(Solo)

How could she
Manage to live
Such a full life
After what she had to go
Through all those nasty events
That forged a strong character
She could have been overwhelmed
But instead got out of that
And emerged as a proud grown-up

They both got out of teenage years
After having been through harsh times
During that part of their lives
They successfully managed
To build a family life
With children for whom
It was so easy
