The First of May
1997 and the times are feeling tough
Nothing ever seems to change and we have had enough
Our problems and the House of Lords for years have been the same
We've had enough and now we're looking for someone to blame
How has our country gone so wrong, how have things turned so sour
It must be the result of eighteen years of Tory power
We've had enough of taxes and enough of lousy pay
We've had enough of listening to John Major dour and grey
We've had enough of Europe being thrust into our throat
We've had enough of politics and can't be arsed to vote
We're getting more fed up of Norman Tebbit by the hour
We've more than had our fill of eighteen years of Tory power
Is this time, will we see
Something change our apathy
Give us change, yes we pray
Bring something new on Election Day
The rumors are that due to sleaze they're heading for a crash
We tell them to ask questions but they only ask for cash
We've seen enough corruption stories spread across The Sun
God spare from more debt than Neil and Christine Hamilton
New Labour, new danger
Don't trust in a stranger
Once more we implore ye
Don't waver, vote Tory
First of May, the general election
I'll be here as you can see
Showing on my Swingometer who's getting a majority
It's not clear which way it will swing
But if you'd let me coin a phrase
Politics are unpredictable because some people swing both ways
So many different messages how do we make a choice
We're looking for some clarity a single honest voice
We could just stick with what we've got
Just one more time one more
But that would be too easy we've made that mistake before
Swing swing, everyone swinging
To the left and to the right
Will we see a brand new government by the finish of the night
See things getting quite heated like it's a thermometer
You can see the results coming in on my old friend the Swingometer
(New Labour, new danger)
(Don't trust in a stranger)
(Once more we implore ye)
(Don't waver, vote Tory)
Time to make things different time to rearrange
It's time our country saw a pretty massive change
You want someone who will listen to you
Someone who will care
Don't despair
Beware Tony Blair
Blair, Blair, Blair
Nothing ever seems to change and we have had enough
Our problems and the House of Lords for years have been the same
We've had enough and now we're looking for someone to blame
