Red Birds

She's getting ready to go
Her little boy is having breakfast at the window
Sizing up the day
another walk in the snow
There's a fire in the stove
Her little boy is wondering
where all the smoke goes
It's a mystery
how could it be that way

Every day starts the same
the beginning of the game
That is life for most of us
Oh the bills come today
And the ball just won't roll in the snow
Her man has gone away
A fallen angel
14 stories in mid-May
A man of steel
But his harness gave away
Her job is hard and long
It's an hour's walk
And she's happy to have one
Across the hill
to the cotton mill in town
Every day starts the same
the beginning of the game
That is life for most of us
Oh the bills come today
And the ball just won't roll in the snow
On the way home from school
He sees the red birds
That the winter does no harm to
They don't go away
They'd rather stay right here
The day is cold and drawn
Not much time to play before he gets home
But it snowed today
No reason not to smile
Every day is the same
The conclusion of the game
That is life for most of us
Like the red birds of winter
Their love will always remain
