High Road To Glory

I made it through to morning light
The load is less to bear
Yesterday was black as night
Today I'm anywhere but there

Some live to see me crawl
No mercy in their hearts at all

I've got no rule
Why clouds are gone
Despair is at a stall

I see a masquerade ball

We ride along a trail of woe
Chock full of sticks and boulders
With one eye on the road below
One eye over our shoulder

And oh the approval of man
Enslaves every heart that it can

There's no way round this mystery ride
We live and die in pain

The morning dew is on the grass
The birds begin to call
I've been on top - been first and last
I understand the fall

I hear voices ahead
People laughing in their own beds

It's been a long and winding path
Still paying on debts I've owed

My spirit breaks in two
Am I a live or am I dying
Just what is false and true

We're all connected in some way

And faith can be a fugitive
But I know God is there

Tonight I walk and I won't stop

Time passes by

Walking through these bitter woods
