It's different today
People walking many paths
Everybody going their own way
We've built up this tower
Expanded our minds

Some folks hide away
So they don't pollute their minds
Then they find themselves
In cyberspace

I'm standing in a doorway
Looking out on a field of green
Somebody's waving a dollar bill
Don't know who he is
Or what he means
You step out on the street
You just might not return
People building pyramids
Nice looking
Too much for me to learn

I see bottomless valleys
And boundless floods
I see chasms and caves
Deep within titan woods
Mountains that topple
And seas without a shore
I've been walking around
Just looking at things
Done so much walking
My feet are sore

I was sleeping
On a summer afternoon
In my dream I was singing
Or maybe just humming a tune
I dreamed of a window
A window behind my head
Through it claimed a little girl
Climbed in, sat on
The foot of the bed

She eyed me for a minute
In a manner sweet and mild
The wisdom of the ages
Was about to flow
From the mouth
Of this little child
She said to me kind sir,
I'm young and you're so very old
I will offer you a story now
One you'll remember
But probably have never been told

I closed my eyes
And let the little girl speak
She told her tale both day and night
Don't know how long
Could have been a week
Never have I heard of
Lands so very fair
Of creatures simply generous
Every living things was happy there

There were battles to be won
Lives to be lost
You'd die for an idea
Without considering the cost
When she finished speaking
We both began to cry
She claimed out of my window then
Without saying so much as a goodbye

It's a wild world
No safe place to be
There are lions and tigers
And freak shows
Just gotta turn on your T.V.
The weirder the better
There's a chance you'll ma a buck
They say you better run with it
Or you'll find yourself out of luck

I was lying in my bed
Still dreaming away
When an older woman
Climbed in my window
Said she had a few things to say
Something about her made me
Grab my comic book
I wanted to disappear in it
But she wasn't about it
Let me off the hook

She told me I was weak
I had no chance to survive
Without her advice
I wouldn't make it out alive
I said that's alright miss
I believe we're all gonna die
We went back and forth
For hours there
Never once did I look her in the eye

We argued until dark
Then I said she had to go
Even though she was a woman
We almost came to blows
I held my ground
And I guess she lost she her steam
She climbed out of my window them
Ran down the street
Every now and then
Letting out a little scream

It's a wild world
People standing in line
Pledging allegiance
To the god of one mind
I'm standing in the mirror
Make sure my look is in place
If you shrug off the insanity
You no longer feel
Part of the human race

I see heaviness
World-weariness
Those utterly consumed
By sharp distress
It's a battle within
To find a way to move along
I'm straining every day
To hear another note
Of that universal song

It's a wild world
Full of mystery
Lose your taste of Hollywood
It's really a lovely place to be
I'll do my best to be a better man
Cuz the more I walk around this place
The less I understand
