Sharks

When I was a kid I kept myself well hid
I didn't let nobody know the things I thought and did
I thought I was real cool, I messed up bad at school
I couldn't seem to curb my pride, everything was cut and dried
I left my home, I sailed the seven seas
Went back to see my family, I couldn't find the keys
I lost my way, somewhere in the dark
I was diving for pearls, swimming with the sharks

Time drifted by, I don't remember much
I was in and out of jobs, trying to find my touch
Sitting on a train, my suitcase on a rack
All the pretty girls, but not one was coming back
The rain came down, gentle on my skin
It's time to close this chapter, start it up again
I lost my way, somewhere in the dark

Now the day is done, the wheat is gathered in
The road lies up ahead, the air is getting thin
A line in the sand, we'll soon be there my friend
