Yesterday

As I lay on the pavement in front of my house
I can see eye to eye with the stars in the sky
As I look around I can see the shadows dance on the ground
It's 2 o'clock in the AM
And there's no lack of cars on the road
What are these people doing up
Why aren't they sleeping in their humble abode
The sun is burning bright and today is turning to night
I can feel the darkness creeping close
The ground is getting cold
Every minute that the sun grows old
And the feeling of everything being okay
Is what I'll miss most of yesterday
I guess we all have some sort of story
Of what we're doing up tonight
I just hope when the morning comes
The world will be just as bright
And as the wind whispers in my ear I begin to hear
My guitar go out of tune
I guess it'll be my time to go in real soon
I told this girl what I write about mostly and
She began to say to me
That the world isn't just a love song
Or a ballad about why it's gone wrong
And as I listened to her words
I let them deep into my heart where they slowly
Slowly tore me apart
Well
It's what I'll most
Of yesterday
It's what I'll miss most
Of yesterday
