Fort Hood
It's been us, making it through all our lives
And I Can't help but think of how cruel it would have been
Without you by my side
I can feel how we've changed
I can feel who we've become
How we're numb to the pain
What we've seen and all we've done
I'm on the floor letting no screams out
Somehow, it doesn't hurt anymore.
We grew close as children,
Orphans under a roof
And they spied on us
We had stolen textbooks
Hidden in our rooms
We had had enough
We ran for dreamland
Down the rainy roads
A man came to us
In the night, he brought us home
Soon,
All of us were tucked in beds
With new sheets
And I,
Sipped warm water as I listened to him speak
"You beautiful children
Are the war at it's worst
You've been on the base all your lives.
And me, well I run things here, you're safe by my side.
I'm alone now, since I lost my wife."
We saved his life, I'm sure of it
Old and grey
We gave him the love he lost
And became his family
He gave us our education
We were thirsty for more
And when the call came in we were all
Taken off guard -
"Yes, hello, Sergeant Rondaine
Special Ops, America.
Your teens have demonstrated
Everything we could ever want."
We're on the field killing a man now -
How come it doesn't hurt anymore?
And I Can't help but think of how cruel it would have been
Without you by my side
I can feel how we've changed
I can feel who we've become
How we're numb to the pain
What we've seen and all we've done
I'm on the floor letting no screams out
Somehow, it doesn't hurt anymore.
We grew close as children,

And they spied on us
