The Story Behind "She Bop" (Pt. 1)

I wanted to mix the rockabilly with electronica
Which in those days, that's what it was, it was electronic music
In fact, Kraftwerk, I even tried to work with the guy from Kraftwerk
And I told him, I said
"Listen, with the sounds you make and the electronic drum
I wanna sing big over it"

And he looked, and he said, "Well, that's not the point, is it?"
So I knew that wasn't gonna happen
But am I a huge fan of him? Oh my God, yes
I think they're brilliant

I also, when I was in Blue Angel opened for the Human League
Also that electronic sound
They hated us by the way, and they hated me, but I loved them
You know, sometimes you can't win from losing, but
But that sound was what I wanted to create on there

And even in like, uhm, John Lennon had just
Had done before his Double Fantasy
Had done the rockabilly stuff, and you know
When he sang Be-Bop-Blu-Bop, you know, "Well," right?
So well, I wanted to take that and make that the first line, "Well..."
Because that's rockabilly

I hope he will understand
She bop, he bop and we bop
I bop, you bop and they bop
