Can't Pretend - Commentary

Love, I have wounds
Only you can mend
You can mend, oh, oh, mm
I guess that's love

I've been listening to a lot of, kind of, uhm, Leon Russel and Elton John
And, uhm, and what I love about Elton John and Leon Russel
Is their, kind of, uh, is their, their, their reference to blues, and dark blues
I was still playing a few gigs and was just setting up the band
Doing some gigs out of town most times and I come back and then I do
I do, sort of, uh, three days of writing, uhm, in my flat
And I would sort of, it, it, it was quite an old time in some ways, 'cause it was like
Uhm, I sort of watched three movies and listened to three movies in a row

I mean, I wouldn't leave the house for three days
And I'd listen to a lot of music and films and then I'd write for just, sort of, straight six hours
Uh, afterwards, three, you know, if you spend three days in your flat writing
You know, things can get a little bit, uhm
Things would be absolutely darker than it would be if you were writing songs at a, at a festival
So, you know, a lot of those songs are along those kinda bluesy, bluesy lines
