Martyr - Commentary
Track through on the album is called 'Martyr'
Who wrote the lyrics to Mars? Is that you, Jake?
Yeah
Do you want to talk a little bit
About that song means to you?
Yeah, Martyr is pretty much written about me as a person
I'm always trying to tell people and encourage
Them todo the right thing thing
Or to be able to overcome
Their struggles of whatever they're facing
But kind ofin the same sense
Not loving myself
Or taking my own advice in that sense
Of really believing what it was that
I was telling other people
So it's kind of like just a reminder forme to really
Try to instead of trying to
Help everyone else that I should be also
Looking into my own heart
And forgiving those that maybe I haven't forgiven
Or things that I face daily that I should
Try to overcome things like that
So that's basically the idea
Behind the record (cool) the lyric
Martyr it has the first clean
Section that you'll hear on the record
It's a little interlude section that
I think we all like a lot It has kind of an Asian vibe in the middle
And we use some different instrumentation
That we've never used before
I can't remember the name
Of the one percussion instrument we use
It's like a Chinese whistle of some sort
That we use for the melody section
But that's something new we've never done before
I think we're all pretty excited about
It Martyr's and it's a drop beat song
It's a little heavier and there's a lot of breakdown stuff
It's definitely got that quote unquote
Signature sound for ABR
I suppose you could say
I would definitely say
Kind of introduces Jake's
Newer vocal style towards the end, too
Yeah
That's like one of the first times you get to hear that the whole thing
Scream, like do screaming notes on the record
Yeah, a little bit of melody in the vocals
Yes
Which is cool
