Broken Promises - Commentary
Track eight is called Broken Promises
This is another one of our more progressive tracks
And It's also the longest song on the album
One of the longest songs we've done
I guess, recently
And this is another one of my personal favorites
Simply because of the progressive nature
But I also am really stoked on a lot of the lead work
On this song I really like the lead stuff
That's on there and there's like a really short
Maybe ten second clean break towards the beginning
But I just love that part so much and I'm really
Stoked on how that came out
I guess an interesting note on this song would be
There was I guess there was some disagreement between us
In the studio as to how the song should end
I, of course, being biased since I wrote the music to it
Was really stoked on how it was in general
Some of the other guys
Thought that the ending went on it was a little too long
They weren't feeling the, I guess, Jamie vibe of it and we actually
I guess, thought this was going to be a B side track
As a result of our disagreement on this
More so coming into
The beginning of the recording than the end
As we kind of saw the songs coming together
It turned out to be up to snuff to
Make the album, I guess, which I'm glad because
It's one of my favorite songs, like I said
But jake, you wrote the lyrics of Broken Promises
Is that right?
Yes
Can you talk about that a little bit?
Yeah, it's just about people that you really love and care
For and commit either like a good close friendship
Or like a family member and then kind of in a sense
Maybe be turning their back on you when you
Needed them or doing something against you
I guess the idea behind it is just
Understanding that people are going to hurt you
And that's just part of life
People are messy and life is messy
And when you think you've got it all worked out or you think that
You can really on someone when you really need them
Then they kind of abandon you
You get angry, you get trust
And you feel betrayed and things
So it's all of those kinds of feelings and emotions
When you feel like or when that happens in life
The thing is that in order to love
You have to be willing to be hurt
They coincide with one another
Cool
