Enemy of the Cross

A man once told me that I was like Saul
Trying to destroy the church of God (Gal. 3: 13)
Persecuting the true disciples of Christ (Acts 9: 1)
And binding them in prison, blinding them to salvation (Acts 8: 3, 9: 2, 22: 4)

I did not believe in the cross
I thought I was in the light but I was in the dark
I believed I was doing the work of God
Zealous in the way I was taught, I did not preach the cross (Gal. 3: 14)

For to those who are perishing it's foolishness to preach
The message of the cross (1 Cor. 1: 18)

I was told one day that I'd be like Paul
A great minister of the Word of God
As Jesus put mud in the blinded man's eyes (John 9: 6)
My eyes were covered with mud
Yet I couldn't see until I was washed by the Word of God (Eph. 5: 26)

House after house I ravaged the Christians (Acts 8: 3)
Until I received a great revelation,
Through God's Word that I was opposing Him
I became a new creation (2 Cor. 5: 17)

For to those who are perishing, it's foolishness to preach
The message of the cross
To those who are being saved, it is nothing less than the power of God
Bringing salvation (1 Cor. 1: 18)

There I was an enemy of the cross (Phil. 3: 18)
Now I bear the marks of Jesus, a minister of grace (Gal. 6: 17; Acts 9: 20)
If anyone rejects the cross they become
Its enemy as I was, but those who accept it are being saved (1 Cor. 1: 18)

I'll rebuild what I once tore down
And I'll suffer for Jesus' sake (Acts 9: 16; Gal. 2: 18)

For to those who are perishing it's foolishness to preach
The message of the cross
To those who are being saved it's the power of God (1 Cor. 1: 18)
I'm no longer an enemy of the cross (Phil. 3: 18)
