I Gotcha - Track By Track
I Gotcha", um, I'm a fan of Joe Tex, ya know
Joe's like this wild, wild singer
I wanna be completely honest
When we started doing the "Soul Deep" record
I hardly knew "I Gotcha"
I'd - I'd heard it a couple a times, but it wasn't, you know
I knew "Show Me", it was one of my favourite songs of all time
But Don Gehman played me "I Gotcha"
And said "This was a single of Joe Tex's in America and I think it'd be a really good thing"
So, ah, we got into the studio and we started recording this song "I Gotcha"
And really, the whole sound of the song and the approach to the swing of the horns and everything
Sort of defined the sound that became "Soul Deep"
That song was the first single that came out and that album went on to sell
You know, eight or nine hundred thousand copies
So, "I Gotcha" was-was an instrumental part of the bridge between myself as a rock singer
And my audience as a rock audience, get- being in touch with the "Soul Deep" record
I gotcha, aha-ha
You thought you got away from me didn't ya, aha-ha
You thought I didn't see you now didn't ya (who me), aha-huh
You tried to sneak away from me didn't ya, aha-ha
You thought ya being' slick now didn't ya, (ha ha) aha-ha
Now give me what you promised me, give it up, c'mon
Alright
Well, you promised me the day that you quit your boyfriend
I'd be the next one to ease on in
You promised me it'd be just us two, yeah
I'd be the only man kissin' on you
Listen, now kiss me
Hold it a long time, hold it
Don't turn me loose, now hold it
A little bit longer, now hold it
C'mon, hold it, c'mon, hold it, c'mon, hold it, c'mon
Give me what you promised, now give it up, oh, huh oh, yeah, yeah, I gotcha, listen
You made me a promise and you better stick to it
You shouldn't have promised if you wasn't gonna do it
You saw me and ran in another direction
I'll teach you to play with my affection
Now here, you never should have promised me
Give it here (no), don't hold back
Now, give it here, don't say nothing
Just give it here, c'mon, give it here, c'mon, give it here, c'mon
Give it here, c'mon, oh oh, now I gotcha, oh, huh
Alright now, I gotcha
Aha-ha, you thought you got away from me didn't ya (oh), aha-ha
You thought I didn't see you, now didn't ya, aha-huh
You tried to sneak away, now didn't ya, aha-ha
You thought you'd run slick, now didn't ya, aha-ha
Now give me what you promised me, give it up, c'mon, oh, oh
I gotcha, huh, alright
I gotcha, don't run away now
Don't hold back now
Well, I gotcha, a little bit more
I gotcha, a little bit longer
I gotcha, a little bit more
I gotcha, a little bit longer
I gotcha, a little bit more now
You couldn't sneak away and I'm gonna get to ya
I'd be the only man
