The Owl and the Cuckoo

when daises pied and violets blue and lady smocks all silver white
and cuckoo buds of yellow hue do paint the meadow with delight
the cuckoo then on every tree, mocks married men for thus sings he:
cuckoo cuckoowhen icicles hang by the wall and dick the shepard blows his nail and tom bears logs into the hall and milks comes frozen home in pail
when all aloud the wind doth blow and birds sit brooding in the snow
whenn blood is nipped and ways be foul, then nightly sings the staring owl
tu-whit, tu-whoo
