Natural Disaster

I'm afraid of tornados
I'm afraid of hurricanes
I've got cousins in California
I don't see them because of earthquakes

There's a home for me in Houston
But I'd leave town each time it rained
I see my folks in Dallas
I'm more scared each time I board the plane

I've been told it gets easier
That fear of dying is a midlife phase
Still, I wonder, would I leave Chicago
If I were not afraid?

Would I live beside the ocean?
Would I drive a trailer coast to coast?
Would I sing a different song?
Would it change each place I wrote?

I used to dream of the ocean
800 miles away
I tried to reach the ocean
The Great Lakes were in, in the way

Seagulls fly over the ocean
There are seagulls flying here too
On windy days, we have waves
And the water is almost blue

Would I live beside the ocean?
Would I drive a trailer coast to coast?
Would I sing a different song?
Would it change each place I wrote?
