Family can be complicated Family can be fun
Sometimes they really draw you in. Sometimes they make you run
Family can be comforting. Family can be trying
Sometimes you feel like laughing. Sometimes you feel like crying

Family can be adversaries. Family can be friends
Sometimes they make you crazy. Sometimes they make amends
Family can be quiet or sometimes way too loud
Sometimes they disappoint you. Sometimes they make you proud

But whatever family is, it's way more than a name
You don't have to talk, or think, or even look the same
The warp and weft of who you are, are in the ties that bind
No matter where you go or stay, you can't leave them behind

You can run. You can hide... You can turn and face 'em
You can push them all away or, you can just embrace 'em
Take them as they are or, try to make them change
No matter how you take 'em. They're family all the same

Family can be nice and easy. Family can be rough
Sometimes the can be all you need. Sometimes they're not enough
Family can be very cold. Family can be hot

Family can perplex you. Family can be true
