Dawn (Gapless)

I remember when we were young
We would go on these little nighttime adventures
We would sneak out of the house
And run outside to a car idling past our driveway
Headlights illuminating tiny dancing bugs
And swirling summer air particles

Whoever was driving
Would crank the music loud
And pull away fast
We would bound up and down the hilly roads
Navigating with ease around the quiet
Lonely turns
It didn't really matter where we were going
We just wanted to feel free
Like on-the-run prisoners
Hands stretched out the windows
Miming airplanes in flight

One late night we pushed through pine needles
And strode over mounds of dirt
And when we made it to our destination
The sun was taking breaths above the horizon
It was a little overlook
And we sat on the edge
And whispered conversation
As if we might disturb the morning peace

The candlelit orange sky bled
Into the soft, blue dawn
And simple nights like those
Bleed together in my mind
We had no idea we were growing
Into the people we would become
But sitting there
I remember it was just quiet
