Upon These Tracks

We stayed so long upon these tracks
One could forget how much time passed between whispers
Whispers because we were too afraid to make bold statements
If you sit long enough, you can feel the vibration of the movement
That metal on metal scraping sound and the shriek of something heated
But no train ever came
You used to say, "it's probably just the rotors" or "maybe it's the brakes"
I would jump up from the tracks every time i felt the vibration
But the sound never moved me either
"Could be something hanging, like the muffler"
Still you never checked
It became clear to me as i began to jump up from the tracks
Even from the sounds, the shrieks
That you would never believe the train would come
And so i will leave the tracks so that when the train finally meets you
I am not there to witness it crush you
