Test of Time

It's been raining in this town ever since the snow stopped
Sad face better pump the brakes just incase the wheels lock
I been running late for work since the day I got the job
With an aching in my chest guess that makes me a heart throb

All my longings, all my clothes, all my belongings I would let them go
To find, if something could stand the test of time

The highway that's heading East bleeds into the rising sun
The politicians pocket's greased, they're gardening with water guns
I been trying to get some sleep but I'm breathing in the forced air
While the fiddle softly weeps a melody on horse hair

Oh no, that ain't how it's supposed to go
Who's to say what should make the jury sway
And decide, if something should stand the test of time

For her eulogy the priest read from a prompt
What a gift to see what I would never want

Everyday's a rapid ride, an endless stream of nonsense
Head out the driver's side, the hound dogs picking up scents
From the noise that comes from birds, callous words disguised as facts
When you let the candle burn down all you gets a jar of wax

All these faces came and went
All of these stages left to reinvent
But there are those who do not fadeaway
They march head on into the darkest days
And remind me there are somethings that still stand
The Test of Time
