Still Love You - Commentary

We're celebrating Tyler Rich's debut album
It's finally out. It's called "Two Thousand Miles" and we're talking to Tyler about every song
And the next one is "Still Love You"
And this one's kind of interesting because if you just hear the title
It can be a little deceptive because it kind of sounds like a love song
But tell people about "Still Love You"

So "Still Love You" was, I know we'll get to "Real Love" later
So if everybody listening, "Still Love You" was written by the same people as "Real Love"
Just alternate concepts of love
So, we wrote "Real Love" first about happiness
A few months later, it is Valentine's Day
And we are sitting with the same group of writers, Andy Albert and Lindsay Rimes
And we're talking about, man, it's Valentine's Day
The last time we wrote a song, we wrote an incredible love song
About proposing to somebody, finding the one
Why don't we write the anti-love song about the ones that we can't stand along the way?

So on Valentine's Day, we wrote a song for ourselves
You know, it's very specifically about my ex from my hometown
And my really big, long ex
And, you know, there are certain places I wasn't allowed to go
There were certain friends I wasn't allowed to hang out with or she didn't like it when I did
And as soon as we broke up, she was always at those places
And she was always with those friends
And it was funny how everything that was bad for me
All of a sudden was okay for her once we weren't together

So like in that first verse, like I knew it happened sooner or later
In this small town, our paths would cross
I'm doing fine most of the time, but that little smile you shot me threw me off
Because there was something about when you're breaking up with somebody
You want to get at them
You know, you want to get to them any way you can
And you want to dagger and you want little stabs and jabs

And it's like, I see you dancing with some guy you know I hate
It's this constant feeling of when you're relieving a relationship
How you can still be in love with somebody and not even like him as a person anymore
You could hate somebody, but be in love with somebody at the same time
And it's the most frustrating feeling in the world
And so when we wrote the song, we wanted it to have angst
And we wanted it to feel aggressive and angry and just like an "F you" to your ex

I'd say mission accomplished
So if you've got that person in your life that you love, but you don't like him
This is your song
It's "Still Love You" from Tyler Rich
