Can't Help But Notice

You've been my best friend for a while now
I used to think that's all you were
But then you went and got a girlfriend
God, she's perfect and you deserve her

And I can't help but notice that she's prettier than me
I've put weight on in the last year I'm not as pretty as I used to be
When we first met, we didn't click like we do today
Back then you were just the guy who didn't have a lot of words to say

But as the time went on we talked more
It got to be like every day
I got more comfortable around you
I keep my guard up so it's a miracle I felt that way

Now I can't help but wonder is she funnier than me
Does she get to make you smile, look in your eyes
God they're the prettiest green
My heart jumps when I see your name there on my screen
But I bet that's how you feel when it's her instead of me

And my friends say I should tell you how I feel
But they don't know how close we really are
Maybe I can't have you in the way that I want to
But if I lost you as a friend, I don't know what I'd do

But it still strikes me how we work together perfectly
I think we make a perfect team but to you it's just platonically
And I have to pretend that that's good enough for me
It's the least that I can do, cause I've never seen you this happy

And I can't help but notice that she's prettier than me
I don't have her perfect hair
Or her smile that glows so radiantly
Her eyes so blue
You could mistake them for the sea
I bet you look into her eyes and you get lost in them so easily

And I have to accept that that's not me
I have to ignore my fast heart beat
Cause I know what you guys have is the real deal
Mine's just a fantasy
It isn't real
