Pull

Do you ever find yourself feeling anxious when approaching green lights?
Sure, we're all afraid of hearing no, but what about when it's go?
You never know when the yellow light will show
And then you have to choose if you're gonna slow down

When am I ever gonna learn
To trust something other than the voices in my head?
When am I ever gonna stop
Putting a shiv in things before we go to bed?
It seems I'm slowly tearing
All the skin off of my hands
As I pull and pull and pull on the rope that ties you to the past

You say I've been holding back for a while
'Cause I might let you in and later change my mind

Sat and watch a silent storm
Thirty-thousand feet
Captain turned on the seatbelt sign
Scattered lights dance back and forth
An' I said, "How can something so pretty
'Cause such a mess of things?"
Maybe that's the way it goes

When am I ever gonna learn
To trust something other than the voices in my head?
When am I ever gonna stop
Putting a shiv in things before we go to bed?
It seems I'm slowly tearing
All the skin off of my hands
As I pull and pull and pull on the rope that ties you to the past

I just wanna hold your hand for a while
Set aside the past and let my damaged hands heal
