Daybreak Walk

In the lights of ghostly lamp posts
My shoes dangling on my hand
As my swollen feet carried me
In a path with no destination

Where is my home
Where are my people

My hair filled with dust
I'm fighting to keep my eyes open

The dogs howl in the distance
Covering my steps that echo through the slums
They protect me from my own neighbourhood
Where even a derelict like isn't welcome anymore
Where each one defends its own misery

In the coldest hour of the night
I have nothing left to send you
My memories have turned to ash in my head
And what the wind brings does not clear

It drizzles in the daybreak
In a sparkling descent
With smokes on the distance
That the wind brought but it will not clear
