Breathe Again

We were all poised for greatness once
We were all supposed to be someone
Let your foot off the gas
Outgrew your Sunday best
And it's nothing that you said
It's nothing that you did
It's just the way it is
And I hope that there's a plan for us
To get a job to fall in love
So tactfully placed
So carelessly unmade
The photo and its frame
The sculpture and its base
The muddle and decay
And the writing's on the wall, I guess
Though it never seems to be what it is
The answer is implied
The choice was always mine
It'll undo us all in the end
One day I will sleep soundly
And one day I will breathe again
And someday I will see
The things I've never seen
The blood on my hands
The damage to my skin
The dignity in this
We were all poised for greatness once
And someday I will be someone
