The Journey

We were packed and ready to go
Following the wind and where it blows
We headed out west
Looking for the best
Traveling winding dirt roads
And making makeshift mountain homes
All under those blue blue skies
Nature's beauty wet our eyes

We didn't have much
But each other was more than enough
Days were long and some went fast
Traversing deserts and fields of grass
Sweating and aching and always busting ass
Just to stay alive
With Matt and Tom by my side
I couldn't think of a better prize

They left their lives behind
And moved with Earth's breath
No doubt in their hearts
They were children once again

We arrived at a mountain base
With sweat and excitement pouring out of our face
Civilization sounds rang from behind
We knew we had to get to the other side
We ran up one foot in front of the other
Rocks crunched under our bare feet
But to us they felt as smooth as butter
Closer and closer we approached the peak

They reached the summit
And gazed out wide-eyed
Doubt filled their hearts
As they saw familiar sights

When we got to the other side
We were met with an ugly surprise
More hate, more debt
More waste, more theft

More pollution, more stress
More greed, more unrest
More needless animal death
Oh to have left home to find another mess!

A decision had to be made
For to run again would seal their fate
Either fight to change the world of man
Or return to the Earth a simple lamb

To stay is to fight
To leave is to accept
No matter the outcome of either
You must not regret!
