Transcendentalism

One day a man came up to me
With an essay in his hand
He said, "Young man, you need to read
This essay on how to lead
A life of self reliance"

Ralph Waldo Emerson is my name
And transcendentalism is my game
I wrote this essay about how to transcend
But really I just want someone to be my friend because

It's kind of lonely staying inside
But if you do it long enough I think you'll find
That there's plenty to do
When there's only you
And you leave society behind

Don't listen to the voices that say you're wrong
Trust in yourself and let your soul sing its song
The great man is he who in the midst of the crowd
Lets his own voice be heard and sings his song aloud

It's kind of lonely staying inside
But if you do it long enough I think you'll find
That there's plenty to do
When there's only you
And you leave society behind

Realize your destiny
All it takes is a little self dependency
Just open your eyes to the power that lies in your mind
Live young and free and put the man back into mankind

It's kind of lonely staying inside
But if you do it long enough I think you'll find
That there's plenty to do
When there's only you
And you leave society behind

It's kind of lonely living on your own
But you'll know that it was worth it
When you see how much you've grown
So do yourself a favor
Become one with mother nature
Give your life a little flavor
Something you can savor
You have nothing to lose
And you have everything to gain
If you trust in your own views
And break away from your chains
It'll be hard at first I'm sure
But you'll have so much more
If you live a life of self reliance
